Inaugural EBP Interest Group in Sydney

On Tuesday 15th October, the inaugural EBP Interest Group in Optometry met at the University of NSW. The group learnt about the first two steps of the EBP Process – Ask and Acquire. The PowerPoint slides and notes and handout of Answering Clinical Questions used on the night can be found on by clicking on the linked text.

Group members then asked their own clinical questions and found relevant literature for a range of topics including coloured lenses, behavioural optometry, health promotion (smoking cessation) and imaging techniques. The group is currently working towards searching for articles on blue light blocking lenses to critically appraise next meeting, a “hot topic” in the media at the moment.

Thank you to the practicing and non-practicing optometrists who attended – it was a fantastic night due to your participation. It was a great opportunity to discuss practice and learn together informally. Thanks also to those who were interested but could not attend. We plan to run more meetings in both face-to-face and webinar format. If you are interested in being part of an EBP Interest Group specific to eye care practice, please contact us at

Elizabeth Murray, Nina Tahhan and Isabelle Jalbert on behalf of the EBP Optometry team.
